Meet Mark Kersey
Mark Kersey is running for California’s 38th State Senate district. The district covers the north-eastern portion of the City of San Diego along with northern and eastern portions of San Diego County.
Mark is a small business owner who also serves as a San Diego City Councilman for the Fifth District.
In 2016, he was reelected to a second term on a platform of rebuilding San Diego’s infrastructure, modernizing and continuing to reform government, and keeping San Diego’s economy competitive.
Mark has a track record of getting results on the council and as Chairman of the city’s Infrastructure Committee has helped improve the City’s roads, sidewalks, and build additional parks and fire stations.
He has emphasized government efficiency and accountability: helping reform how the city evaluates, prioritizes, and invests in infrastructure. He has successfully advocated for prioritizing increased infrastructure investment, and orchestrated the development of San Diego’s first comprehensive Multi-Year Infrastructure Investment Plan. He is also the author of the Rebuild San Diego measure which was approved by voters in June 2016. The new law will provide up to $4 billion in dedicated funding for neighborhood improvements – without raising taxes a single penny.
Mark brings that same passion and results oriented approach to his campaign for the state senate. He wants to go to Sacramento to fix some of the biggest problems facing the state, including: reforming California’s structural pension debt, reforming the state budget, rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure, and making the state more friendly for job creators.
In addition to chairing the Council’s Committee on Infrastructure, Mark serves as Vice Chair of the Economic Development and Intergovernmental Relations (ED&IR) Committee and Vice Chair of the Rules Committee. He was elected as First Vice President of the League of Cities Vice President, and sits on the board for the San Diego Regional Airport Authority and San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation.
An alumnus of Northwestern University and the UCLA Anderson Graduate School of Management, Mark is the founder and owner of a high-tech research firm focused on the streaming video industry.
On the weekends, Mark enjoys playing baseball and golf with his son, Tyler.
